Red Flags of a Bad Web Design Agency

Most bad agency experiences are predictable in hindsight. Here are the warning signs to watch for before you sign anything.

1. No Written Quote or Scope

If everything is verbal with no written breakdown of what's included, disputes over scope are almost guaranteed later.

2. Pressure to Pay 100% Upfront

Reasonable payment structures (e.g. 50% advance, 50% on delivery) protect both sides. Demanding full payment before any work starts is a risk signal.

3. No Live Portfolio You Can Verify

If they can't show live, working websites they've built — not screenshots, not mockups — be cautious.

4. Vague Answers About Ownership

You should own your domain, hosting account, and source code. If an agency is evasive about this, your website could effectively be held hostage later.

5. No Post-Launch Support Plan

"We'll be available if you need us" is not a support plan. Ask for specifics — response times, what's covered, what costs extra.

6. Unrealistic Promises

"Guaranteed #1 on Google" or "viral in a week" claims are marketing fiction, not realistic outcomes. Be wary of agencies that promise outcomes outside their control.

How We Do It Differently

We publish our pricing openly, give written quotes, and offer structured maintenance plans — exactly the opposite of each red flag above.
