Hidden Website Costs Agencies Don't Tell You About

The quote you sign is rarely the total cost of owning a website. Here are the costs that tend to surface later — and how to avoid being surprised by them.

1. Domain & Hosting Renewal

Domains and hosting are annual costs (typically ₹1,500–₹4,000/year combined) that some agencies bundle into year one only, leaving you to figure out renewal yourself.

2. Premium Plugin/Theme Licenses

If your site uses a premium WordPress theme or plugin, many come with annual license fees (₹2,000–₹10,000/year) that aren't always disclosed upfront.

3. Content Updates

"You can edit it yourself" sounds great until you realize most business owners don't have time to learn a CMS. Factor in either your own time or a maintenance retainer.

4. SSL Certificate Renewal

Most modern hosts include free SSL, but some cheaper providers charge for renewal — always confirm this before signing up.

5. Email Hosting

Professional email (you@yourdomain.com) is often a separate paid service from your website host, typically ₹100–₹300/mailbox/month.

How to Avoid Surprises

Ask for a written breakdown that separates one-time costs from recurring costs, and ask specifically: "What will I be billed for in year two?" A transparent agency will answer this without hesitation — see our own pricing page for an example of what that looks like.
